Application & Usage
- Adhesives & Construction: PVA is widely used in woodworking glues, paper
adhesives, and as a binder in plaster, mortar, and cement formulations
to improve adhesion and flexibility.
- Textiles: In textile sizing, PVA helps strengthen yarns, reduce
breakage, and improve weaving efficiency. It is also a precursor for
vinylon fibers, which are strong, durable, and resistant to weathering.
- Packaging Films: PVA films are notable for being biodegradable and
water-soluble, making them suitable for environmentally friendly
packaging (e.g., detergent pods, agrochemical packaging).
- Paper Industry: Acts as a coating agent to improve paper's strength,
printability, and resistance to oils/grease.
- Release Agent: Used in molding and casting because it prevents materials
from sticking to surfaces.
- Emulsion Polymerization: Functions as a protective colloid and
stabilizer in the production of synthetic resins and dispersions (e.g.,
PVAc emulsions for adhesives and paints).
